One of the main
reasons why SOPs exist, and the reason why they have become more and more
important in Y2K, is because business situations are very complicated and
require rapid response to difficult challenges.
If you can have (in advance)
created a standard way of operating in particular situations, then all
the employees have to do is follow a course of action without having to
"think" what to do. It is the "thinking" that cause problems because people
might not do something important, or stress may cause them to skip a step,
if they follow SOPs then everything will be done according to what is required.
